Dennis Debarr

Dennis Debarr ex original Toronto Blue Jay and Kennedy High School Fremont class of 1971, developed type 2 diabetes. What started as a blister then small wound on the bottom of his left foot that wouldn't heal despite casting his leg etc. it developed into Sepsis from Strep bacteria entering his blood stream, and Gangrene  in his foot and leg, resulting in August 13, 2018 Dennis' left leg being amputated below the knee.  Had he not sought an Ambulance the night before, he would not have survived according to his Surgeon.   It has been a very hard fight to rid his body of the infection, fevers, vomiting,  low blood pressure,  he had additional surgery on September 12, 2018 and has made improvement since then.
Dennis has been in a Rehab Facility in Modesto since August 18, 2018 where he receives IV Antibiotics every 6 hours through a Pick line, wound care including a wound vac attached to the leg and Physical and Occupational Therapy.  His projected date to go home is the end of October, the fight will not end there, once he is completely healed Dennis will be fitted for a Prosthesis in 3-4 months.  He doesn't have any family support system and lives in a studio apartment with a single support person. He has incurred costs beyond his Kaiser coverage and Rehab coverage of 20 days, and now has $100.00 per day co-pay and will need a Electric Wheelchair that can navigate bumps (doorways) which costs $5,000, transportation costs to Doctor appointments.  Dennis is so humbled by these events and the support of his friends means everything to him.  As much as he is struggling to accept the loss of his leg, he knows he is responsible for not managing his diabetes and is shockingly positive most days.
It is beyond comprehension to sum up what he has gone through and then to have to ask for help, he is such a kind kind soul.
Dennis reached out to his Baseball Alumni and will await if they can provide any assistance, in the meantime he hopes his friends and acquaintances wish him well and send prayers even if they are unable to help at this time.  Thank you.
