Support Denisse Miranda’s Recovery



Denisse Miranda is one of the most hardworking, ambitious, intellectually curious, and loving human beings. At 17, Denisse experienced a traumatic event that threatens to erase all she has worked for, and the promise of her future. On Thursday, March 15, Denisse entered a Denver hospital with injuries to her face, neck, abdomen, back, and hands, requiring multiple, extensive surgeries. While still in ICU, and without health insurance, bills have begun to quickly add up. With need for around the clock love, care, and support, Denisse's single-mother had to leave her job.

Denisse dreamt of not only enrolling in college next fall, but eventually opening up a non-profit that provides support for immigrant families, especially in their pursuits of a college degree, career, and better lives for their families. Nothing in her life has come easy. Prior to her injuries, Denisse was anticipating graduating not only with her high school diploma, but also an associates degree. She did all of this while nearly working full-time, and helping her mother raise her younger brother. This is a testament to her perseverance and determination.

This fall, Denisse planned on enrolling in one of her dream colleges. While accepted to nine different schools, ultimately, she was choosing between the University of Colorado Boulder or Colorado State University.

Denisse has a long road to recovery. We don't know when she will move from ICU to a standard hospital room, but we do know that she still has an extensive hospital stay ahead of her. Finances should be the least of her and her mother's worries, but the reality is, that they're hospital expenses, and home bills are already accumulating. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated.

Denisse Miranda es una de las jóvenes más trabajadora, ambiciosa, intelectualmente curiosa y amorosa que conozco. A la edad de 17, Denisse ha vivido una experiencia traumática que amenaza con borrar todo por lo que ella ha trabajado y la promesa de su futuro. El jueves 15 de marzo, Denisse llegó al hospital de Denver con heridas graves en su cara, cuello, abdomen, espalda y manos, requiriendo múltiples cirugías extensivas. Ella sigue en cuidado intensivo, y sin seguro médico, las cuentas médicas se están sumando rápidamente. Por la necesidad de amor, cuidado, y atención constante, la mamá soltera de Denisse tuvo que dejar su trabajo.

Denisse no sólo soñaba con matricular en la universidad en el otoño pero también, eventualmente, de establecer una organización sin fines de lucro para apoyar a familias inmigrantes, especialmente con respecto a estudios universitarios, carreras profesionales y mejores vidas y oportunidades para sus familias. Nada en la vida de Denisse ha sido fácil, sin embargo, antes de esta situación Denisse anticipaba graduarse no sólo con su diploma de preparatoria sino también un título universitario asociado. Ella ha logrado esto mientras a la vez trabajaba prácticamente tiempo completo y ayudaba a cuidar de su hermanito menor. Este es un testamento a su perseverancia y determinación. Este otoño, Denisse planeaba matricularse en una de las universidades de sus sueños. Mientras que fue aceptada a nueve universidades diferentes, ella estaba decidiendo entre la Universidad de Colorado en Boulder y la Universidad Estatal de Colorado.

Denisse tiene una larga recuperación por delante. No sabemos cuando saldrá de cuidado intensivo pero sí sabemos que tendrá una larga estadía en el hospital. Los gastos financieros no deberían de ser una de las preocupaciones de Denisse ni su mamá en estos momentos sin embargo las cuantas médicas y las gastos del hogar se están rápidamente acumulando. ¡Cualquier donación que puedan aportar será sumamente agradecida!
