Giving Back to Denise Reed Darnell

I cannot begin the fathom the number of lives my Aunt Neesie has touched over the years.  She has taught most us of from a very young age how to color pretty, make a happy plate and if you were one of the really lucky ones you were taught the importance of teamwork during one of her many very competitive kickball games.  You were taught that life is not always fair, attitude is everything and that you win some and you lose some.

I can guarantee that you have a memory of her that not only will put a smile on your face but most likely will make you laugh out loud.  So whether you know her from daycare (Reed’s Love-N-Care), church (Shiloh Methodist in Wheel) or the ballfields where she spent the majority of her free time, I know you have a story to share about how she made your life better just by being in it.  And now she needs us.  Now is our time to give back to Neesie for all the love and joy she has given us over the years.  Now is the time for us to show her how BIG of an impact she has had on our lives.

Saying all of this, I assume that most of you like myself are no strangers to the cancer beast.  I feel confident that we have all experienced the effects of cancer in some form or another and that the sickness that floods over your body each time you hear that someone is diagnosed with this terrible disease never gets easier.  We try to be brave, we try to be strong and all the while we sit back and wonder…  What can I do?  How can I help?

Well because she would never ask, I am asking for her.  Neesie needs us now like never before, her medical bills are piling up and her regular bills haven’t stopped.  Please help us knock a dent in her financial burdens so that she can remain focused on what is most important, her health.

No amount is too small!  So please give what you can, drop a card in the mail letting her know you are thinking of her and send up a prayer to the ultimate healer on her behalf.

Denise Reese Darnell was diagnosed July 6th with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  After several weeks of not feeling well, a number of antibiotics and over the counter medicines she decided she needed to seek further treatment.  Neesie arrived at the ER at Harton Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.  She was very weak, short of breath and running a fever.  Harton ran a number of tests and found that her blood and platelet counts were very low and she would require a transfusion.  Not being able to accommodate her needs they moved her to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital for further treatment.  Additional testing was done as well as a bone marrow biopsy that showed she not only had pneumonia but that her blood counts continued to drop and we were later told she would be moving to Vanderbilt Medical Center because they felt very certain she had Leukemia.  The Dr.’s at Vanderbilt took more blood and completed another bone marrow biopsy of their own and after several long days of waiting very impatiently she was confirmed to have Acute Myeloid Leukemia with no mutations.

She was told that she would need to remain at Vanderbilt throughout her treatment process, meaning that she cannot go home…  This was a devastating blow to her not only mentally but financially.

She is on a 7/3 chemo treatment plan and will remain in Vanderbilt for at least one month depending on how the cancer reacts to the chemo
The days are getting tougher as the effects of the chemo take on these cancer cells
As a family, we are trying to be respectful of her wishes as well as be there to help her through this understanding that she needs the rest is easy but understanding that she doesn’t want us there watching her rest is proving to be the hard part

We pray that one round of chemo is all that is needed but we want to help plan ahead if she needs to stay longer.  Any help you can give is greatly appreciate by all.

Love and Prayers!

Misty
