Denise's GBM Cancer Fight, Round 2

Denise is my best friend Ashley's sister, who is now dealing with a rare and aggressive brain cancer for the second time.  The first round was the most difficult and challenging thing she's ever dealt with in her life, and now she's having to go through it once again.

Rewind to August 25, 2013 when Denise was first diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a rare and agressive brain cancer. She spent months and months going through INVASIVE brain surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. After an excruciating treatment process Denise finally could say she kicked cancer's butt despite doctors saying the survival rate was 6-12 months. However, although appearing to be in remission, this form of cancer has a high reoccurance rate. As a result, Denise flies to Duke Cancer Center for follow up MRI's every couple of months.  On Tuesday December 12, 2017 Denise receieved devastating news from her routine MRI. Her Glioblastoma has returned...

Next Wednesday, Denise will undergo a new polio treament for GBM. Doctors will inject polio into her tumor to allow her immune system to attack and destroy the tumor! We have our fingers crossed. Behind the scenes, there will be severe side effects she may not advertise. She and her husband Jeff, will spend the next four months back and forth to Duke in North Carolina, away from her seven year old son, which will be both physically and emotionally draining. Medical bills aside, there will be lodging, many plane tickets, a lot of restaurant visits, etc.

Denise is one of the most incredible people I've ever met. She is not only an amazing mother and wife, she's poured all of her efforts into successfully raising thousands of dollars for the American Brain Tumor Association. From which, she's never taken a dime. However, this time it's our turn to pour our efforts into her. A second time around is scary, and the last thing she should have worry about is covering her medical expenses.  We have all followed Denise on this journey and I know we all agree that she should be focusing on kicking cancer's butt AGAIN. Let's all rally around her and show how much we love her and want to help her beat this! Every dollar counts, and is one step towards giving her a stress free treatment process.
