Demi needs a safe garden for her new home!

Hey!

My name is Tony, I am One of Demi's siblings and we are the Murray Family.

Our sister Demi has always been our family's miracle by defying all odds, let us explain her story.....

Demi was born in August 1992 at Yorkhill Hospital, She was one of the first babies to ever have open heart surgery in Scotland at just 3 days old.

Demi was born with a hole in her heart, Endocardial Cushion Heart Defect, and AV Canal Syndrom which in turn these conditions and having multiple surgeries at just a few days old lead to brain damage and the conditions she has today.

Demi went into heart failure shortly after these discoveries and our Mum (Diane) was told they had only 30 minutes to save her life.

Demi was given her last rights in the hospital as the doctors thought she would not make it but against all odds. Our family managed to speak to a doctor from great Ormand street in London and DR Wilson was willing to try and save Demi’s life.

Demi went under her first operation at 3 days old but due to other complications she had to have multiple other surgeries, but Dr. Wilson managed to save her life after 16 hours in the theatre but that was not the end of Demi’s surgeries due to not being able to breathe properly demi had to get a Traci ostomy fitted to help her breathe and get her off the machines. Demi was in hospital until she was 2 and a half years old.

All the doctors on ward 2a of York hill hospital in Glasgow every member of staff really liked to spend time with Demi and they all helped her to get better and managed to get her home for Christmas so she could spend Christmas with her family.

Our Mum (Diane) and Diane's Dad Samuel fought to keep Demi alive over the years as there had been times that Demi was in such a bad way the hospital was advising to turn off her ventilators, We knew she was strong and till this day, still is incredibly strong at nearly 30 years old!

We were told Demi wasn't going to live past 5 years old which just shows how strong she is and how we all as a family did everything we could to keep her going and still do till this day.

Sadly our beloved Mum was diagnosed with Stage 3 Clear Cell Kidney Cancer on the 17th of November 2017 and battled through until the 6th of September 2018, She fought as hard as she could while still taking care of her Daughter Demi up until she couldn't fight anymore.

This was a huge loss and impact on our Family and of course Demi, As a family, we all muddled together and thankfully we were able to have someone Demi knew to care for her through shared lives until we were able to find a more suitable long-term home either with one of her siblings or her own home.

A wonderful opportunity has arisen this year in which Demi was offered a home through an amazing group and it has been a long process setting it up and transitioning her into her new home, She has settled amazingly and has all her family and 24/7 care.

Her new home is shaping really well except there are still some things Demi needs to make safer so she can enjoy her Garden, Currently, her Garden is open and has no fencing which is required to ensure her safety so she doesn't wander off onto busy roads by accident and get hurt. We want to make her home as safe and amazing as possible for her and she needs our help to make this possible!!

We have set a £500 goal which will be a huge contribution towards having the fencing installed If for some miracle she receives more than £500 in donations the excess will be used to fund items for her sensory room and to make her home smarter and life as best as it can be.

We appreciate as a family every single person that is able to contribute to our most amazing Sister Demi and will be forever grateful for any support and help.

This is just a short rundown of our sister and her story as it would need a whole book to be written to fully detail her life :)

Demi is incredible and we all love her very much, we want her to have the most fulfilled rest of her life however long that may be.

I will attach photos of Demi and post regular updates on how she is!
