Demetrius

Demetrius was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in the Spring of 2013. She successfully completed treatments for the Multiple Myeloma and was in remission by December 2013. However, in recent years, Demetrius has continued to run a high risk of infection rate, multiple bone fractures, bone pain, continued low hematocrit requiring frequent blood transfusions and other various debilitating issues. She has been hospitalized multiple times this year for various issues related to her diagnosis. This past June, after receiving another blood transfusion, she coded and was revived and put on life support; it is believed that she had a stroke. Demetrius has recently suffered a C1-5 spine compression fracture and is immobile for the next 6-8 weeks. It is unknown at this time if she will be a candidate for surgery to repair her spine. Currently, she is receiving medication to keep her spine from swelling and help prevent her from getting pneumonia (a side effect of immobilization), along with treatments for her ongoing pain. She has been through a lot medically and is still not sure of what options are available to her. She no longer has any more time off from her current job and obviously cannot work due to her most recent diagnosis. So money, even to pay her monthly insurance cost, will quickly become a hardship. Demetrius is a loving mother of two boys (One who is currently in College and another in High School). Throughout her medical conditions, Demetrius has been dedicated to her job rarely missing any time off and bouncing back where she left off. As you can imagine, the frustration of not only not being able to physically work, much less the pain she continues to endure and not knowing what treatment will be next.
