Delta Prime COVID19 - 3D Printing

Donation protected
We are raising money to bulk purchase supplies to create face shields for medical facilities in the local area.  We are members and mentors of a high school robotics team serving the RSU2 area in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, and Kennebec Counties of Maine, with access to a cluster of 3D printers suitable for creating face shields and "ear savers" and other PPE. These designs are from the NIH 3D Printing exchange where open source models are shared for community creation and use.  We are using models recommended for clinical use after review by the NIH.  A few weeks ago we began with "ear savers" they are a strap that goes across the back of a surgical mask wearer's head, designed to hook the elastics of the mask to take the strain off the ears.  With negligible cost of about $0.06 each we have been giving these away for free to anyone with a need by local contactless pick up.  To date we have distributed over 1700 of these.  In the last few days an anticipated acute need is appearing in the area medical community as the number of COVID19 cases continues to grow.  Face shields and other PPE are in short supply, with few expected to be available as the global demand for these is at an all time high.  We have begun making face shields to distribute to the local medical community through a few channels, but given higher material cost of $0.40-$0.55 each, our production of these is not sustainable without external funding, which we are now reluctantly requesting.  We can make over 100 a day, but we will need significantly more materials to sustain this effort and meet the needs we have been told about.  Our main supplies needed are 3D printer filament, which is becoming more expensive as global demand spikes, and Letter size (8.5" x 11") Transparency sheets (either acrylic, acetate, or PETG).  With this funding effort, we will be able to secure the materials in bulk hopefully through wholesale purchase to produce over 3000 face shields in the coming weeks, which we intend to distribute for free through official channels to where they are most needed until our supplies run out or are no longer necessary. We are a team of individual volunteers working together, alone, from our homes to make this happen.  We have been optimizing our printers for speed and are ready to put the materials to work as soon as we have them.  Your contribution to this effort may help be the difference for a medical facility having access to face shields that might otherwise not.  Thank you for your consideration and your donations, and in the words of Dr Shah, "Please be kind, and take care of one another."
