My name is Delon Kanari. Last year, I decided to forgo my senior year at Wauconda High School to train at the U.S. Olympic Training Site located at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. In the past, I competed for the Team Illinois National Team at the 2018 U.S. Marine Corps Junior National Championships in Greco-Roman, which is considered the hardest high school wrestling tournament in the world. I took 2nd at that tournament. Prior to that, some of my biggest accomplishments in the sport of wrestling were placing 6th at that same tournament a year before. In that same year, I placed 1st at the Illinois Greco-Roman State Championships. I was also fortunate enough to place 3rd at the UWW Cadet World Team Trials in Akron, Ohio in 2017. Last year I placed 3rd at the UWW Junior World Team Trials in Indianapolis, Indiana.
My first year at NMU/OTS, I brought back a silver medal from this year’s Austria Junior Open at 60kg. I also placed 5th at Junior World team trials in Vegas, NV. I wrestled at the Senior World team trials as well and placed 5th wrestling up a weight class at 63kg. At U23 World team trials I bumped up another weight class and wrestled at 67kg and placed 6th. Representing the United States has always been a passion of mine, and my goal is to one day be an Olympic Gold Medalist for USA. I have traveled around the country and world to train and compete in order to make that dream come true. This year, I plan to train & compete around the world and hopefully rep the red, white, and blue at the Junior World Championships.
Unfortunately, competing internationally and travel for the NMU-USOTS is NOT covered and is fully SELF-FUNDED. This is the cause for my Fundraising Campaign. No amount is too small and all shares of my campaign are GREATLY appreciated. I will do my best to represent, not only myself, but the United States, Greco-Roman Wrestling, and all my supporters. Any & all donations are greatly appreciated!
