Delly Belly

Donation protected
Dear Sail Caribbean Family,

I'm hoping you'll help us to make Delly's transition home as easy for him and Edris as possible.  As you know, over the last month or so Delly has been in the hospital after having a serious stroke and numerous seizures.  Now that he is back home, Delly and Edris are facing a new reality.  The damage from the stroke and seizures has left him with early onset dementia, depression, in diapers, and a feeding tube in his belly.  He is also not able to sit up, roll over, or stand on his own.  He did suffer a set back about 10 days ago, when the hospital ran out of his seizure medicine causing him to have additional seizures till they got him his meds.  Since the seizures, he hasn't been very vocal but he is aware of who myself, Matt and of course his family are.  This being said, he was also like this when we first visited him over a month ago in the hospital so I have hope that he can bounce back again.

Delly and Edris live in the downstairs apartment in the house that Delly built over looking Sopers Hole, with his daughter Adina and her husband Tyrone living upstairs.  During Hurricane Irma and Maria, they lost parts of their roof (which has been fixed), most of their windows and the french doors to the porch as well as all of their furniture due to water damage.  They are still awaiting their insurance check from Nagico, and are left with an old bed, one sitting chair, two plastic chairs, hutch with family photos and kitchen equipment.  Plus any clothing that were hanging in their closets.

We are hoping the extended Sail Caribbean family would be able to come together to help purchase the following:
-Wheelchair: about $250-$500
-Outdoor table and chairs: $250
-Love Seat and Chair: $1500
-Physical Therapy co-pay: Until they visit we won't know what the co-pay will be as they charge for each service per visit.  My guess would be between $20-$50 a visit
-Diapers, bed pads and gauze: $50 a week

They also will need a hospital bed which Mike Liese is taking care of.

If we are able to raise enough money, we would also like to look into a home health care worker to help Edris change, bathe and get Delly into the wheelchair so he can sit on the porch for a bit.  Their kids are around but like myself and Matt, we are working during the day so this will fall to Edris.

I know we all love Delly and he has meant a lot to us over the years and now he needs our support. Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated!

A little fund-raising 'housekeeping:' All donations will go into a bank account that Mike Liese has access to and myself, Matt, Mike Liese and Bruce and Kathy Dreher will have access to the gofundme page.

Myself and Matt were in charge of Virgin Islands Search and Rescue's community fund post Irma and found it was best to have complete transparency.  This was best achieved by purchasing the items or paying directly for the services needed which is what we will be doing for Delly.

As we go along, I will post updates as to what items where purchased and what money is left in the account.

His kids and Edris are grateful for all the notes, videos and love they've received in the last month!
