Natalie VolunteerNursing in Africa

Hi, everyone! I am Natalie Farrell, a recent graduate from James Madison University with a degree in nursing, and I just passed my nursing boards making me a Registered Nurse. I have decided to start my nursing career by spending two months volunteering in a maternity clinic in Arusha, Tanzania starting August 15th.  I will be working through an incredible organization called International Volunteer HQ assisting with labor and delivery, and post-partum care.

This kind of work is important because in Tanzania close to 8,000 women die every year during pregnancy and childbirth as a result of conditions that could have been prevented or treated. Up to 50% of births take place at home with no medical assistance and in unhygienic conditions. If a life threatening complication occurs at home it’s often too late to reach health care facilities in time. The work being done by IVHQ is really making a difference.  And I am very excited to start my nursing journey by helping women and children in Africa.

I am raising money specifically to purchase medical supplies and fund needed procedures. ALL the money I raise will be going directly to help women and children in Tanzania.  Any amount that you contribute will help, five or ten dollars might seem like pocket change however it can quickly add up and help safely bring a new baby into this world :)
