Deklyn Shields Medical Fundraiser

Deklyn Shields, daughter of Darian and Denae Shields,  was born May 3, 2018 at 27 weeks, weighing 2.65 pounds. Deklyn has required some type of breathing support since birth but was steadily improving until mid-July.  Deklyn's condition worsened and doctors at IU North Hospital's NICU unit determined she has chronic lung disease and pulmonary hypertension. In early August she was lifelined to Riley Hospital where she is currently heavily sedated and breathing with the help of a ventilator. Bacteria was found in her lungs and she is responding to antibiotics but her recovery will require time and growth. Medical staff estimates many more months of hospitalization.

Mom, Denae, has not been able to return to work. She is staying at the Ronald McDonald house and eating her meals out in order to spend as much time as possible with Deklynin.  Dad, Darian, is traveling from his job as a fitness director and personal trainer in Noblesville daily to be with the family. Deklyn, at this time, would need a tracheostomy and a ventilator, requiring 24/7 care and supervision, in order to go home. Denae, an IU Health employee, carries the health insurance for the family.

Funds raised will be used to defray medical expenses, including $8000 annual out of pocket co-pay as well as travel and food while she is hospitalized. Funds would also help cover the cost of home health care when Deklyn is fianlly able to go home.
