Dejan's Cancer Fund

Hello everyone! As some of you may or may not know my brother, Dejan Dunovski, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. Often times when someone is diagnosed with such a cancer many immediately feel that this is now what defines them.  Before I go into the details of Dejan’s cancer I want to tell you all a little bit about my brother and who he has become in the last 10 years. Growing up, Dejan was very much the kid that kept to himself, but definitely become more social with his friends entering his teenage years. When he graduated high school, we all knew he wasn’t going to be your average student. He attended and graduated Florida Atlantic University with his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Once he graduated, he immediately started work in Palm Beach, Florida in order to gain some experience within his field. My brother, being the studious type, always knew he would continue his education and of course began applying to different universities for his master’s degree. I will never forget the day he called me to tell me he had an interview with one of the admission’s officers at Reykjavic University in Iceland. Dejan was admitted on the spot, on a full scholarship. You can only imagine the pride my family felt for this kid coming from two Macedonian immigrant parents. One year into his master’s degree he was offered to do research at Czech Technical University in Prague on transactional costs in residential photovoltaic system’s investments; In layman’s terms: analyzing external costs of renewable energy sources. This was his life path up until two weeks ago. On November 27th 2020 my brother was given the news that no one at the age of 28 (or EVER) should receive. My brother has a malignant tumor growing on his left knee and was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. Typically, this sarcoma is diagnosed in children between the ages of 10-20 years old, so as you can imagine, it is even more rare to be found in a young adult. He was immediately flown home to Miami, Florida and quickly started the process of visiting orthopedic oncologists and hospitals. With that being said this is only another chapter in Dejan’s life and now our life as a family. My brother was very much afraid of this being a sob story; but this is a story of strength leading into triumph. My brother has received thus far & will be receiving X-rays, CT knee & femur scans, MRIs, biopsy of the knee, CT Chest scan, a bone marrow biopsy and definitely more scans to come. He will have a port placed next week as it is imminent that he begins chemotherapy in order for the size of the tumor to shrink as well as kill any and all micro metastatic cells. Dejan is currently considered an Out-of-Pocket patient and the month of December has been extremely hard on our family. All I ask is for everyone to share his story in hopes that we can minimize his financial burden for the next couple weeks. I also promise to keep everyone updated as time and treatment progresses.
As I mentioned earlier, his cancer is considered a child’s cancer and Dejan will be treated at Miami Cancer Institute in the children’s ward. No child should ever feel this pain and being a mother myself, I cannot begin to imagine their pain of a sick child.

ANY FUNDS NOT USED WILL 100% BE DONATED to the children’s cancer ward at Miami Cancer Institute.2020 has been a crazy year for the world, in 2021, I wish everyone to remember that your health and your family/friends are the ONLY THING that matters. Keep this at the forefront of your mind throughout life and you will always know the right path.

Blessings,

Elena Dunovska
