Deja, Shawn, & Hudson Fire Recovery

Donation protected
On December 6th the Thomas Fire burned through Rincon Mountain, destroying 75% of Deja and Shawn's avocado orchard. The avocado orchard was their livelihood and also where they lived. This was their leanest year and they were only days away from their biggest harvest (the biggest they have ever had) before the fire came. All of their money was in these trees and now it's gone.

Before the fire came they were able to get their personal belongings into a storge unit in Carpinteria. Yesterday it looked like the fire was heading towards that town, but luckily it changed directions and their personal items are fine.

For those of you that know Shawn, his life was these avocado trees. When he wasn't working in their orchard, he was out consulting for others and serving on the board of the California Avocado Society.

Shawn, Deja and their son Hudson were set to come to Northern California for Christmas with Deja's family.

Deja is heading up early and will be homeschooling Hudson while Shawn stays behind, trying to stump the remaining trees in the hope that they'll grow for next year. All of the irigation melted and needs to be replaced. There will be much more to do as the full extent of the damage is understood in the days, weeks and months ahead.

Everything that Deja and Shawn had was in this farm, and right now they need help.

These funds will be given directly to my cousin Deja, her husband Shawn, and their son Hudson to help with living expenses (as they no longer have any income) and supplies for Shawn to repair the orchard.
