Help Deidre DeeFeat Triple Negative Breast Cancer!

Deidre is a very good person to have in your life. She’s smart, funny, and generous. She can be silly or serious, whatever the occasion warrants. Her friends are family; her family is family. She’s someone you want in your corner. And when she’s there, she’s really there, cheering you on with a warm, bright smile. It’s no coincidence that Deidre has built a career as a birth-and-postpartum doula; she is a caregiver in every sense of the word. She has provided support, comfort, and wisdom to over 450 families before, during, and after the births of their children. And now, it’s Dee who needs support, comfort, big smiles, and love as she undergoes treatment for cancer.

Deidre was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 46 after discovering a lump at home. Familiar with the “normal” lumps and bumps she encountered when helping clients with breastfeeding and lactation issues, Deidre immediately sensed that something wasn’t quite right. Her worst fears were confirmed after an ultrasound and core-needle biopsy. Because her diagnosis is rare and extremely aggressive Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Deidre finds herself with limited treatment options. She currently is undergoing five months of chemotherapy before surgery sometime in late February 2015. Since she’s Triple Negative, Deidre is participating in a clinical trial at UCSF, so all of her treatment will be in San Francisco.

Since her diagnosis in late July, Deidre has, unfortunately, had to pass her scheduled clients on to other doulas and anticipates not being able to work in any substantive way until the late summer of 2015. She feels a heartbreaking loss at having to give up her thriving birth-doula practice while undergoing treatment.

Deidre and her husband, Kevin, are also caring for Deidre’s ailing dad, who moved in with them following Deidre's mom’s death two years ago. He requires significant care. The overnight loss of Deidre’s income (40 - 45% of the family’s annual total), plus the high cost of medical care paired with a very high deductible healthcare plan, are severely stressing the household financially.

Deidre has given so much to so many, and now she is the one in need of a gift. Please consider donating so that Deidre and Kevin have one less thing to worry about and can focus their energies on fighting Dee’s cancer and getting her well.

Of course you can make your donation right here via GoFundMe; however, if you want Deidre and Kevin to receive your entire gift—without GoFundMe taking an 8% cut—feel free to mail a check directly to: Deidre Lorenzo, 109 Arabian Way, Scotts Valley, CA 95066-4775.

If you'd like to help in other ways, a MealTrain account has been set up: https://mealtrain.com/wr33e

Thank you, in advance, for your love, care, and generosity. Deidre and Kevin would not make it through this without our support. Please feel free to share their story and GoFundMe campaign with your social networks.

Should you have any questions whatsoever about Deidre and Kevin’s need to fundraise, please contact Kevin Hislop directly via private Facebook message, email, or cell.

Again, thank you!
