The Brown Family was hit pretty hard in 2017.

Dad suffered a stroke on October 10.  After months of hospital care, rehabilitation and nursing facility care he was able to return home for good in February 2018.  He no longer drives and is unable to return to work, but is doing much better and caring for himself.

Three weeks after my dad’s stroke,  Dee also had a stroke on October 30 while away on her birthday trip.  It was truly shocking and unexpected. After a dramatic but brief hospital stay, she was discharged to fly 3 hours back home to Maryland.  A little more than a week later, on November 10, Dee had a second massive stroke that led to emergency brain surgery. She emerged unable to speak or move her right side. With intensive rehabilitation, she has made stellar progress in her speech and mobility.

After a second brain surgery in March to address the cause of the strokes, Dee continues weekly outpatient rehabilitation.  She continues to work hard every day, in rehab and at home, to regain as much function as she can in her speech and right side mobility.  Dee has enjoyed a 17-year career in law enforcement that she is very proud of. However, at this time she is unable to return to work and we are unsure if she will ever be able to return.

Due to the additional assistance my family needed, I have been living with Dad and Dee since October.  Very recently, with Dee’s help, I was able to acquire the pet business that I have successfully managed for the last five years, which was a huge dream come true.  And even more recently, I was presented with another opportunity to expand the business very quickly and in a significant way. Expanding the business would be a tremendous help to the family.  It would allow us to create a safety net of support as we navigate future needs. We could also create an opportunity for Dee to work for the business in the event that she is unable to return to her career in law enforcement. We want to continue to take care of ourselves as a family.  With any monetary support you are willing to provide, we will be able to confidently address any future financial needs that may arise.
