Defibrillators for Dundalk Lions Club

On Sat. the 12th of June 2021, the World stood still in complete shock when Denmark’s Christian Eriksen went into cardiac arrest during a football match in the Euros. Christian Eriksen is alive today due to the availability of a defibrillator and the actions of players, officials and medical staff. After one shock from the defibrillator Christian’s heart started pumping again. He is a super fit athlete and it shows that anyone can suffer a cardiac arrest. But not everyone will have access to a defibrillator.

Ireland Soccer Team Manager and local man Stephen Kenny, had a heart issue in 2019 when travelling with the Ireland Under 21s. But he  survived thanks to the actions of his medical team and the availability of a defibrillator.



Stephen said: “Looking at Christian Eriksen's situation, I got flashbacks and saw the impact it had on the people around me. I can’t imagine  the things I would have missed out on. It’s been a blessing for me”.

Our town Dundalk has some defibrillators but urgently needs more.

Dundalk Lions Club, in conjunction with Dundalk based 'Cardiac First Responder Scheme’ have identified three locations in the town that need cover. First Responder spokesman Barry Hennessy said: “Defibrillators save lives and with your help we can save more local lives”.

Dundalk Lions Club has been helping local people in practical ways since 1977. Our motto is “We Serve”.  We want to help save local lives.   The Lions Club, with your support, will purchase and arrange installation/maintenance of these life-saving defibrillators. They will be available 24/7. Their location will be registered with the ambulance service and a person who phones 999/112 as well as being told how to do CPR will also be told the nearest location.
