Pacifica Fightback is a coalition of dedicated listeners and programmers from all five Pacifica stations, united to defend the network’s democratic Bylaws and preserve its legacy as a platform for peace and justice. Pacifica was founded by war resisters and pacifists, and its transformation into a membership organization with democratic elections of local delegates empowered to evaluate management and oversee finances has enabled it to sustain itself as a voice for freedom of expression. This mission is more critical than ever, as recent changes have threatened to silence the diverse voices that Pacifica has long championed.

 The new Bylaws, adopted through a court settlement without a membership vote or public discussion, have stripped members of their rights and removed the powers of elected delegates to oversee management and finances. As a result, beloved programs have been reduced or eliminated, and management has shifted away from local control, replacing unique community programming with content from other stations. This has made it harder for Pacifica to keep up with changes in communication platforms and to attract a new generation of creators and listeners. The loss of these programs has deeply affected the community, limiting opportunities for engagement and the amplification of marginalized voices.

 Funds raised will support Pacifica Fightback’s legal efforts to contest the illegal Bylaws in court, covering the costs of previous court documents and legal representation. Restoring internal democracy at Pacifica is essential for the network to fulfill its mission and defend democratic rights in society as a whole. By supporting this effort, you help ensure that Pacifica remains a vital platform for communities developing self-determined solutions to oppression, exploitation, and environmental devastation.
