DeFenceless With Dogs:
First and foremost, I'd like to offer my prayers for all of those whose lives have been devastated by the recent hurricane disasters.
My name is Meredith Reiff, Meri to all of my clients and friends and I am a professionally trained pet groomer. I have been blessed more than I can say by my wonderful clients and friends who have supported me in the past and continue to do so. It is always extremely difficult for me to ask for help but in this case, it really is the only way I can continue to provide a safe, happy place for all of our "kids."
My goal here is to reach out and ask for help from those who are able and understand how important it is for the dogs in my care to be safe, loved and happy- without delay.
In 1991, when I opened shop in my home in Sarasota, I had an 8 foot wooden fence installed; a necessity to provide a secure place for the pups to run and play safely. In the course of caring for their precious pets, my clients would frequently ask if I knew of a safe place to board their dogs; most did not want to put them in a kennel. At their request, I began boarding their pets in my home which the dogs were already familiar with and acclimated to .
For many, it has become their second home as they have come here since they were puppies. Some come for daycare; some for extended stays and others for socialization. It is not unusual to see several dogs lying on the sofa or lounging on recliners in between their barking and playing!
Unfortunately, my old wooden fence was no match for the hurricane winds and it was at least 75% destroyed. It must be totally replaced, 6 foot now being the county regulation. The lowest estimate I received to replace it is $6500.
Now I realize that the perfectly resonable question will come as to why I cannot afford the $6500 to replace the fence. Suffice it to say that like millions of other people in the country, my family and I have suffered overwhelming medical problems and the resulting financial issues. Additionally, as a very small business, when clients need to cancel my services becasue of hurricanes or other emergencies, I don't recover that income.
It is my goal to be able to get back up and running 100% as soon as possible so that I can continue to offer the safe, loving space for the dogs and clients I have come to care about so much. Contributions of any type will help toward that goal and are very greatly appreciated!
