Dee & Charles Waits

Dee and Charles recently became homeless and could really use your help.  Within a year of moving from Denver to Arizona, Dee found herself hospitalized for a second time, due to issues related to heart and kidney diseases.  Doctors are now telling her she needs to have surgery, as she has a leak in one of her heart valves.  These conditions are in addition to her suffering from asthma and sickle-cell disorder.  As a result of her health issues, the doctor would not release her to return to her job cooking in a grocery store.  She ended up losing this job and was not able to cover their apartment rental costs.

Escaping from gang membership and drug dealing, Dee has raised Charles, essentially on her own, and worked hard to keep a roof over their heads.  Charles, now 13, loves football and has overcome a great deal.  I mentored him for a few months, before they moved to AZ, and I couldn't be more proud of the strides he has been making.  He went from being angry, disrespecful, and mostly bitter, to a friendly and loving person.  He also went from nearly failing the sixth grade, to being a responsible and successful student.

Since she isn't able to work on her feet, at this time, Dee is hoping to drive for Uber.  Unfortunately, her phone is on its last leg and not adequate for this type of work.  Additionally, if she doesn't make her car payments soon ($250/month), her car will be repossessed.  She is hoping to get Charles into a football league next week, but doesn't have money for the fee ($240).  For many reasons, including the exercise, I believe Charles needs to play.  These things are in addition to the funds necessary for acquiring a place for them to live (shelters aren't a permanent option) and other basic needs.

Please consider lending them a hand.  Whether it be $5, $10, or $500, anything will go a long way in helping them back on their feet.
