Debra Kidd's Memorial

Almost a decade ago, Debra Ann Kidd was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure.  This shocking diagnosis came two months after completing her first Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education from Miles College at the age of 55. She was a single mother who worked tirelessly to provide a modest life for her four children. Determined to be an example to her children, she proved that completing a degree at any age is possible.  Behind the curve, in a class filled with young adults half her age, she excelled to complete her degree with honors. She truly had the heart of a lioness.

After Debra was diagnosed with Kidney Failure, the news was a shocking blow to her heart.  Immediately, she began to make her last days her best days.  She began to make plans to open "Kiddy Care Land", a full-service day care to meet the needs of single parents and families in her community.  Her vision was the fire that gave her a will to live.

In 2011, she was placed on the Kidney Transplant list, and to accellerate her process, her youngest daughter Jabria joined the Kidney Paired Exchange Program. After extensive preparation, the family had reached the triumphant day of scheduling Debra's transplant but plans quickly came to a halt after heart complications prevented her from proceeding with transplant surgery.

Since that time, medical bills surmounted, financial resources declined, and grieving the loss of her mother, Debra's condition grew worse. Unable to manage this disease while living alone, she moved from her home to live with her eldest daughter for consistent support.

After dialysis on March 17, 2018, Debra was sent to the emergency room at Huntsville Hospital for complications with her vision. Soon after, she was unable to see, walk, and talk.  She passed on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11:47 pm less than two weeks later. Debra will be remembered as a bright shining beacon of love and laughter to anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Debra leaves behind her four beautiful children, Stacey, Kiesha (Derrick), Kordarius and Jabria, who she loved with all her heart. She had three grandchildren, Stefani, Londyn, and Kylan that she leaves behind.  She is also survived by her brother Cedric (Cathy), her sister Charita Fluker, and a host of family and friends.

Proceeds will go to the funeral, cremation, and final expenses of Ms. Debra Ann Kidd.  Thank You for your kindness.
