To prepare for the transplant, she will be admitted to the hospital where she will undergo an aggressive form of chemotherapy for four days. This will deplete her current bone marrow and prepare her for the donor stem cells. Once the transplant is completed she will stay in the hospital for three more weeks. After being released, she will be required to live within three miles of the MD Anderson Cancer Center and have a 24 hour caregiver. The total time she will have to live in Houston will be four to six months.
This has been a difficult time for our family. Debbie is a grandmother of seven and has always lived an active lifestyle. She has always loved working in her yard, gardening, doing things with her kids and grandkids, and being involved with her church family. The effects of chemo and transfusions have taken a toll on her body and its been really hard for her because she doesn't have the energy she once had, especially on the weeks her blood counts drop.
We are reaching out for financial help as It will be a long road to recovery. They will have expenses for housing (which is extremely expensive that close to MD Anderson), travel, groceries, prescriptions, deductibles, and other medical expenses.
After years of being there for everyone else, its our turn to be there for her. Any donation will help, but we are asking for your prayers for her and our family. This difficult time has made our faith in God and our family stronger, and we believe God will restore her health.
