Hello "Team Debbie" family and friends! In March of 2016 our Mom, Debbie had “Intraocular Lens Exchange” surgery on her eyes in hopes to fix a lifetime of extreme nearsightedness. This surgery came with unexpected complications. She has searched to find someone who could figure out what was wrong with her eyesight and why she was having such sensitivity to light. In December she was referred to an Ophthalmologist in Salt Lake City, Utah at the John Moran Eye Center who studies in this area. After consulting with the specialist he informed her that 1 in 1000 people will have Positive Dysphotopsia from the lens exchange, which is extreme sensitivity to light. Unfortunately, she is that 0.1%, and for the last 2 years she has been struggling to find relief.

She was told that the only way to correct the problem was to remove the Intraocular Lens and replace it with one made of a different material. The surgeries were done in January. Unfortunately, there have been further complications with these surgeries as well. The surgeon referred her to a colleague for consultation and it was decided that additional surgery was necessary.

The 3rd surgery was done on her right eye on March 6th and it is expected to take a few weeks for the eye to heal to the point where she can determine if the surgery helped to fix the issue. A 3rd surgery on her left eye has been scheduled for March 27th. The additional surgeries add to the possibility of further complications, but we see this as the only alternative to give our Mom her life back.

As I'm sure you all can see this has been an emotional roller coaster for both of our parents and has created a significant financial burden. Our Mom has not been able to work for several months and our Dad has been taking time off to accommodate the trips to Salt Lake City as well as the financial aspect of travel, housing and the surgeries. We ask that if you are able to help out financially that would be more than we could ever thank you for. If you are unable to help at this time we would appreciate your thoughts and prayers for our family. We also ask that you do not contact our parents directly.
