David & Debbie Head-on Collision

Donation protected
On September 10th 2017 Debbie Briggs and David Hawkins were on their way home from the grocery store when they were hit by a young man who was sadly; under-insured, speeding and unable to maintain his lane. Their injuries were extensive with both of them suffering burst vertebrae fractures and David a shattered hip socket as well. Their injuries have left them both still in recovery with Debbie unable to work and David still in a rehabilitation facility.

David has ALS, he was diagnosed over ten years ago and because of his Faith in God, sheer determination and Debbie's help has survived and thrived with his diagnosis. David is fully disabled but with the help of assistance programs is able to rent a small house and have Debbie as a full-time live in caregiver. This is how they have lived for over ten years, it's not a lot but they have their faith and they have each other.

During this time and before, Debbie and David have given themselves tirelessly and at their own expense to helping others. They have loved and taken care of countless people, people who often times had no one else and nowhere else to turn. For eleven years they have run a food donation ministry called Fishes & Loaves Ministry delivering food to churches, homeless shelters and door to door for the sick, elderly and disabled. They did this all at their own time and expense out of their Faith and Love for God. Through their ministry work they have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people who often had even less than they did. They have devoted their lives to these folks, bringing them food, comfort and prayer, driving them to doctors appointments, attorney appointments, grocery shopping or whatever their needs have been, again all at their own time and expense.

Since the accident Debbie spent four months in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities and is now back home and with the help of physical and occupational therapists visits she is slowly starting to get around again. David is still in a facility and learning to walk again and with the faith and perseverance he abounds with, will be able to go back home in the not too distant future.

In the meantime their small income has been stretched farther than can be imagined and with Debbie currently unable to go back to her job of being David's caregiver their income has also been been reduced drastically.

So herein lies the desperate need for this fundraiser, as there is no safety net for a situation like theirs and their home is in danger. Without this help they will have no way to pay rent or utilities, and no means of even moving if they had to, let alone a place to go or the ability to move. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay their rent and bills so David has a home to come back to and to sustain it until the time Debbie can get back to work. Please help if you can, no amount is too small. Let's give back to these two amazing selfless people who have taken care of so many in our community, let's show them the love they have shown to so many.

Thank you and may God Bless you.
