SCAMMERS TARGET CANCER SURVIVOR

Donation protected
This would have to be the toughest year for MY AUNTY Deb and crushing for someone that has been through so much.

Early this year. Deb was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her 2 sons both living far away, one interstate; her partner Pete who had also just gone through a year’s battle with cancer became her rock. Her family were unable to visit, to care for her, or provide support in person due to case numbers throughout the pandemic continuing to increase in Victoria.

After a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Deb kept herself in isolation with a compromised immune system. It was the safest thing she could do in her fragile state. A plus side was that she was able to save some money. Deb was starting to see a light at the end of a dark tunnel  and she had managed to save enough for a deposit on a apartment. This was a goal she had not thought would become a reality in the foreseeable future.

After finding her special apratment and with weeks liaising with her conveyancer and the real estate agent, she was successful in securing a property. Deb was so excited as this was something now positive in her life she could look forward to while going through further treatment and surgery.

While waiting for finance to go through, Deb was asked to put down a deposit to secure her dream home. That is where the next part of the roller coaster ride of 2020 started. Deb handed over $55,000 via EFT just the way any one of us would have through dealings with her conveyancer and the real estate agent.

Sadly somewhere along the line, the emails were hacked and intercepted by someone posing as the real estate agent and her conveyancer. The money now in an unknown account unable to be retrieved.

After seeking legal advice she was told she doesn’t have a case with little or no chance of any kind of recourse in obtaining her deposit back. So now Deb had lost her entire deposit with now no chance of securing any property for her future.

I STARTED THIS GO FUND PAGE BECAUSE Aunty Deb has always been someone I have looked up to and have been inspired to emulate. She has a kind, caring and selfless nature, always putting others before herself. When I was in Primary School she opened up a child care centre to support all the working families in a small Victorian town in Goulburn Valley. Through the good and the bad, she always made her workers and the families attending her service her first priority!
