She's a loving caring 36 year old mom of three boys and a wife. Recently diagnosed just two weeks ago with a extremely rare form of cancer of her left salivary gland and lymph node some of the cancer is on the base of her skull. The cancer is Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.
She has underwent a full 12 hour surgery on 12/7/2020 where unfortunately the nerve that controls the movement on the left side of her face has been removed. She is now paralyzed on that side of her face and has lost about 90% of her hearing in her left ear.
Her surgical team of four at Froedtert Hospital consisted of surgeons including a plastic surgeon.They have removed the left salivary gland a lymph node, and the cancer is on the base of her skull with some bone. The nerves that controls the movement in the left side of her face has also been removed. A graft from her right thigh has been taken to fill in the space, an also using some of the blood vessels and nerves to try and reconnect any living nerves left in her face to one day hopefully be able to move her mouth on the left side again! The ENT surgeon has removed the portion of the cancer through her ear canal and has sewed it off leaving a great deal of hearing loss in her left ear. Her doctors suggest in the future radiation after she has fully healed, and has been cleared of cancer that she gets a hearing aid and implant.
Also in the future the plastic surgeon said she will need to do therapy to work on regaining movement in her smile on the left side. In the future she may need to have surgery on her left upper eyelid if it starts to droop, and also on her eyebrow if that starts to droop as well.
The funds are needed now as she has had to take leave from her full time job that is needed to contribute care of her family. The support is urgent so that her and her family can focus on her full recovery which will be a long road. Her husband now the only provider can only take off for appointments with the worries of no paycheck that week.
