Deanna Billman Assistance Fund 2020

Billman Family Assistance Fund

Many of you know that Deanna Billman has endured serious health issues. These health issues started five years ago when her second child was born. These issues continued to affect her daily life. The resulting difficulties made it hard for her to eat, sleep, work, raise a family, and have what most people would call a ‘normal’ life.

After years of indeterminate medical treatment, a knock-out punch was thrown on August 08th when Deanna went into the hospital to deliver her third child. Deanna and JaMarr’s baby is healthy and beautiful! Deanna, however, was diagnosed with an invasive stage II chordoid meningioma brain tumor. This tumor threatened total blindness, and, writing bluntly, death in the hour before their baby’s delivery. Deanna is currently recovering from a 15-hour-long brain surgery conducted at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to remove this unusually large and aggressive tumor.

Her physicians believe that the surgery was successful and that they were able to remove the whole of the tumor. However, Deanna’s sight has not fully returned. It remains uncertain as to how much more sight she will regain -- if any -- and when. Either way, her recovery period will be extensive. Her physicians say she will require continued monitoring of this condition for the rest of her life as the type of meningioma she was diagnosed with has an unusually high return rate.

We ask for your help because Deanna has now depleted all the benefits available to her from her employer. While she qualifies for additional leave, it is, sadly, unpaid. Any social security benefit Deanna might be eligible for is at least six months away. She will not be able to return to work anytime soon. Moreover, there is the threat that she may not be able to return: period. To give her and her family the best fighting chance, Deanna needs time to recover. However, her family’s on-going medical bills and expenses care nothing for these facts. On behalf of Deanna and the Billman family, we are asking you to consider donating. Not only will your donation help them to survive the coming months, but it will also help them carve out a new ‘normal.’ Many of you reading this have already asked what you can do to help. Donating is one way you can contribute. Right now, your help and your prayers are both needed and appreciated!
