Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and sponsors,

My name is Ashantay student at Washington school for the Deaf got selected as one of 64 youth leaders all over United State and internationally to attend Youth Leadership Camp this summer July-August 2018!! I am one of two students that was selected from my school to attend. I am SO excited!!

“The NAD Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) is an intensive educational four-week summer program for deaf and hard of hearing high school students. The camp provides leaders the ability to develop their scholarship, leadership, and citizenship (SLC) qualities in nature environment. Leaders experience self-discovery, learn about self-identity, confidence, and self-esteem and understand many things about themselves.”

The only thing, I need to do now is to collect tuition fee of $2,600 by June 16, 2018. I needs $2,000 more to go. I really need your help with this fee, I cannot do this by myself. I would get a side job just for this camp but I involved in sports and currently on a track team where I just won 3rd place in shot puts and 4x100 relay yesterday! I travel to different states for sport meets. I am is an honor roll student with a collection of awards ranging between employees of the month at Terrier World School Store to State Championship in Track and Field, not to mention, Most Valuable Player in basketball and volleyball. With the fee due date being on June 16, I won’t have enough time to get a summer job to make money for this camp. I truly need your help. This will be the only opportunity I will get in my lifetime. It won’t come around again. So I really NEED your help. Please please please!

I really want to be able to go to YLC to develop my leadership skills in many different areas in her life and meet many respected guest speakers. I like the opportunity to become one of these alumni that became a lawyer or a doctor! Here is more information about the camp:

2018 YLC Camp dates: July 19 to August 16, 2018

The NAD Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) is an intensive educational four-week summer program for deaf and hard of hearing high school students. The camp provides leaders the ability to develop their scholarship, leadership, and citizenship (SLC) qualities in nature environment. Leaders experience self-discovery, learn about self-identity, confidence, and self-esteem and understand many things about themselves. NAD YLC is also an extension of the activities and training offered by the Jr. NAD.

The NAD selects 64 leaders from all over the United States and internationally. The leaders receive donations to cover their application and tuition fees and travel expenses. Community and business members, including NAD YLC alumni, team builders, and guest presenters, are actively involved in this program. Each of them makes a lasting impact on the program.

The YLC program is designed to provide deaf high school students with the training and educational opportunities necessary to transition to opportunities in higher education, meaningful employment, and leadership development. Our daily seminar/workshop topics include (not limited to): self-advocacy, peer mentoring, communication, media, career exploration, personal discovery, leadership development, and solidarity.

Interactive activities offer leaders the opportunity to understand the emphasis on ‘learning by doing,’ adopting the old Chinese proverb: “Tell me, and I’ll forget. Show me, and I’ll remember. Involve me, and I’ll learn.” This dynamic program builds character, positive interpersonal skills, conflict resolution development, encourage informed decision-making skills and promotes a lifetime of healthy activities and relationships with others.

This highly popular program has graduated over 2,500 alumni in its 48 years of existence. This, in turn, contributes to a network of successful alumni. Many of these alumni have become successful leaders and advocates for the deaf and hard of hearing community, including businessmen and women, teachers, professors, lawyers, doctors, NAD board members, and employees. NAD YLC is a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity.
