<div>I'm James, a single dad of two teenagers, incredibly lucky owner of windmill De Korenaar on the island of Tholen in the Dutch coastal province Zeeland. I am raising funds to restore the historic 1710 Dutch windmill, a beautiful piece of heritage that has stood for over 300 years.

<div><strong>Ageing beauty</strong>

<div>To put its age into perspective...the mill already stood tall when the USA was founded, has 'seen' the French revolution in Europe, was already spinning it sails during China's Qing Dynasty, was full on milling flour when the Western world connected with Australia for the first time, endured two World Wars and kept going after the dramatic Dutch floods of 1953 that triggered construction of the Delta Works.

<div>Pictured in the time it was constructed, its inner workings are mind blowing. The innovation, precision and reliability achieved over 300 years ago are just amazing. And every time I climb up its ladders and see the wonderful woodwork, my heart beats faster with excitement. But time and weather have taken their toll, and without urgent repairs, this landmark risks falling into disrepair. Restoring the windmill means preserving a piece of history, keeping its sails turning for future generations to enjoy.

<div>Ik ben James, alleenstaande vader van twee tieners en eigenaar van molen De Korenaar op het eiland Tholen in Zeeland. Ik ben bezig met het inzamelen van geld voor de restauratie van deze historische windmolen uit 1710, een prachtig stukje erfgoed dat al meer dan 300 jaar trots in de wind staat.

<div><strong>Schoonheid komt met de jaren…</strong>

<div>Om een idee te krijgen van de leeftijd van de molen... deze stond al volop te draaien toen de Verenigde Staten werden opgericht, heeft de Franse Revolutie in Europa 'meegemaakt', was al in werking tijdens de Qing-dynastie in China, maalde meel toen de Westerse wereld voor het eerst in contact kwam met Australië, heeft twee wereldoorlogen doorstaan en bleef draaien na de dramatische overstromingen in Nederland in 1953 die de aanleg van de beschermende Deltawerken in gang zette.

<div>Als je je voorstelt hoe de molen er uitzag toen hij werd gebouwd, is het echt indrukwekkend. De innovatie, precisie en betrouwbaarheid die meer dan 300 jaar geleden werden bereikt, zijn wat mij betreft echt fantastisch. Elke keer als ik binnenin de ladders opklim en het prachtige houtwerk zie, gaat mijn hart sneller kloppen.

<div><strong>Geschiedenis</strong> <strong>bewaren</strong>

<div>Maar de tijd en het weer hebben hun tol geëist, en zonder dringende reparaties dreigt dit prachtige monument in verval te raken. Het restaureren van de molen betekent het bewaren van een stukje geschiedenis en ervoor zorgen dat de wieken blijven draaien voor toekomstige generaties.
