<div>In januari 2025 viel het doek voor de fysieke winkel Colourful Goodies, de eerste in 2016 geopende inclusieve poppen speelgoedwinkel van Europa. Al gauw was het meer dan een poppenwinkel. Wat volgde was een beweging. Ellen Brudet haar winkel werd een veilige plek voor herkenning, gesprek én bewustwording. De winkel is weg, maar de missie leeft voort. En juist nu is die belangrijker dan ooit.

<div><strong>Bouw mee aan de doorstart van Colourful Goodies</strong>
</div>
<div>Colourful Goodies moest begin 2025 de fysieke deuren sluiten. Geen keuze, maar uit noodzaak, door o.a. de groeiende concurrentie waar Ellen niet meer tegen op kon botsen. Haar strijd om de winkel te behouden, onder andere door deze te laten ondersteunen door de gemeente, heeft ze helaas verloren. Maar deze strijd mag hier niet stoppen. Want Colourful Goodies was nooit zomaar een winkel. Het was een veilige ruimte. Een plek waar kinderen zich wél gezien voelden. Waar representatie wél de norm was.

<div>Ze leest voor op scholen, bibliotheken, en buurthuizen. Met poppen die iedereen weerspiegelen, ongeacht huidskleur, achtergrond of lichamelijke uitdaging zorgt ze voor meer bewustwording. Als Tante Pop vertelt ze de kinderen: Jij mag er zijn!

<div>Wat begon als een winkel, is uitgegroeid tot een beweging. Voor inclusiviteit. Tegen racisme. Tegen uitsluiting. Ellen noemt het <strong>normalisatie</strong>. Want zolang niet ieder kind zich herkent in de wereld om zich heen, is er werk te doen. En dat werk moet doorgaan.

<li><strong>Poppenkleding laten maken.</strong> De kleding wordt handgemaakt door lokale modistes in Amsterdam Noord die op deze manier uit isolement komen. Door een pop te kopen van Colourful Goodies draag je bij aan dit mooie sociale initiatief. Ook de samenwerking met <a href="https://www.insidethesame.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stichting Inside the Same</a> zorgt voor verbetering voor vrouwen met albinisme. Ook zij maken al jaren poppenkleren voor Colourful Goodies. Zo draag je met de aankoop van een pop direct bij aan het verbeteren van de levensomstandigheden van vrouwen en kinderen met albinisme in Tanzania. Je helpt niet alleen bij het bieden van economische zelfstandigheid, maar ook bij het creëren van een veiliger en inclusiever leven voor deze gemeenschap.

<div>In January 2025, the curtain fell on the physical store Colourful Goodies, Europe’s first inclusive doll toy store, opened in 2016. It quickly became more than just a doll shop. What followed was a movement. Ellen Brudet’s store became a safe space for recognition, conversation, and awareness. The store may be gone, but the mission lives on. And now, more than ever, that mission is vital.

<div>Colourful Goodies had to close its physical doors in early 2025. Not by choice, but out of necessity, due in part to growing competition that Ellen could no longer keep up with. She fought hard to keep the store alive, including seeking support from the municipality, but unfortunately, the battle was lost. However, this fight must not end here. Because Colourful Goodies was never just a shop, it was a safe space. A place where children did feel seen. Where representation was the norm.

<div>What started as a shop has grown into a movement. For inclusivity. Against racism. Against exclusion. Ellen calls it normalization. Because as long as not every child can see themselves in the world around them, there is work to be done. And that work must continue.

<li><strong>Doll clothing production</strong>, handmade by local seamstresses in Amsterdam North, helping them overcome social isolation. Buying a doll from Colourful Goodies supports this beautiful social initiative. The collaboration with "Inside the Same Foundation in Tanzania" helps women with albinism: they have been making doll clothes for Colourful Goodies for years. Buying a doll directly improves the living conditions of women and children with albinism in Tanzania.
