Emma\'s Kidney, Katelyn\'s Love

Emma Kay Ray (Daughter of Daniel and Amanda Ray and niece of Katelyn Pellowski). For the past year and a half me, along with a lot of other people have followed this precious little girl, who\'s big blue eyes light up a room and her little giggle just melts your heart. We know how special she is and just how much love is around her. Now I ask for your help. You see Emma was born with one kidney, which is cystic. That means her kidney does not function correctly; it cannot filter out certain things. She has been on a very strict diet, taking LOTS of meds, and has been seeing a pediatric nephrologist (kidney specialist) every month to check out how her kidney is doing. Unfortunately, over the past year and a half its functionality has been declining. We always knew she would eventually need a kidney transplant someday, and that someday has come. Little Emma is growing and her kidney is not so she needs a new one. Lucky for Emma, she does not have to look very far. The bond between Emma and her Aunt Katelyn is a strong one already, but very soon it will be stronger than ever. Katelyn was a match! And without question the love from an aunt to her niece shines through as Katelyn has agreed to give one of her kidneys to Emma. This for Daniel and Amanda is a blessing that can never be repaid. So what is next? After cold and flu season the transplant will take place. Emma will be in the hospital for a while and then she will go home to finish the recovery. She will be on A LOT of anti-rejection meds, which lower the immune system, along with weekly visits to have labs to check kidney function. I am asking for donations to help out with medical needs for Emma and Katelyn. They will both be on medications after the surgery that may not be covered by insurance. Emma will also have to have some one stay with her at home for a while, due to her low immune system she will not be able to go out in public. It would be nice if Amanda could take extra time from work to take care of Emma even if she doesn\'t have leave time. Any donations large or small would be greatly appreciated.
