Handicap Accessible Van

We are the Hileman Family.  I'm Kristin, married to my high school sweetheart Bill and we have been blessed with two beautiful children who both have special needs.
Let me introduce you to our first blessing.  Her name is Brynn and she is 7 years old and suffers from Rett Syndrome.  Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder that primarily affects girls. Most girls cannot talk, walk, or use their hands. Brynn was diagnosed with Rett syndrome at the age of 2 1/2.  She had some words, could play with toys appropriately, feed herself, and be the happiest little girl she deserved to be.  Now at the age of 7, Brynn has lost all of her skills. Brynn suffers from seizures, GI issues, scoliosis and is in a wheelchair.  We recently found out Brynns left hip is completely out of socket and she will be having hip surgery on November 24, 2014.  She will be in the hospital for atleast a week for recovery and will be in a cast from both hips down to her toes for 6-8 weeks.  As you can imagine, it's very difficult to carry a child that has lost complete control of her body and weighs 55 pounds.  With the added weight of the cast and Brynn will be in 90* position while sitting up, it is critical that we can transport her safely.
Next let me introduce you to our second blessing.  His name is Will.  Will was born at 32 weeks and had a cervical teratoma (cancerous tumor) on his neck in utero.  Will was very sick when he was born and the doctors prepared us for the worst.  You never want to hear those words.  Two days after Will was born he underwent surgery to remove the tumor that was taking his life.  During surgery Will suffered from some serious brain bleeds and as a result has Cerebal Palsey.   Will was in the NICU for the first 4 months of his life. We came home with Will on a ventilator and lots of medical equipment that we did not even knew existed.  Today Will is 4 years old and full of life.  Though he has disabilities, he has proven to not let his disabilities define him.
We as a family fundraise for our childrens non-profits that specifically support their disabilities, but we have never actually held a fundraiser to benefit our children.  Recently my husband was in a car accident and we had to get a reliable car for him to go to work and provide for our family.  Handicap accessible vans are VERY expensive and we hope to raise funds to help pay for this van.  We are fundraising for a medically handicap accessible van that will allow us to transport both of our blessings safely.  Please share our story and a HUGE Thank You for taking the time to read about us.  "Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."
