Death Race for Charity
Death Race for a Cause!!!
The Summer Spartan Death Race is the ultimate test in endurance and intestinal fortitude. It drives each athlete to their physical and mental limits. For over 70 hours competitors will endure countless miles of hiking in the Pennsylvanian mountains and numerous obstacles that test strength, willpower, and mental capacity.
This year all proceeds from the race will be given to the charity of choice by the finishers. My charity of choice is the Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). The NMCRS provides financial assistance and education to military service members throughout the Marine Corps and Navy. Numerous times in my career I have referred my Marines to the NMCRS for help. In the Marine Corps the first priority is mission accomplishment, and the second is troop welfare. It is extremely difficult to train for war or maintain focus on deployment while worried if you have enough money for your wife and kids to eat. The NMCRS provides short term, no interest loans, in times of hardship. The bottom line is they keep a warfighter's focus where it should be. Now, I am not one to freely throw my money to every bleeding heart cause out there. I want to make sure my donation dollars are being used for the right purpose, not administrative overhead. The NMCRS has a 92.9 (out of 100) rating from CharityNavigator.org. This is higher than the Wounded Warrior Project or the Red Cross. That means more of your money is making it to those who need it.
I will be racing in the 2015 Summer Death Race, and my charity is the NMCRS. I am trying to raise $2500, which is well over the registration fee. The excess will be donated to the race for the charity pool. You are doing two things by sponsoring me:
- Paying money to witness me in extreme physical and mental pain
- Donate to a well worthy cause.
Thank You!
Chris
