Raise Me to the Top (Project Arizona)

Hello,  my name is Aaron Mwewa Kasonde. I’m a 21 year old Zambian student activist for freedom, studying Economics at Peoples’ Friendship University in Moscow Russia. I've been nominated to be among the top 12 young international leaders for liberty to participate in a program called Project Arizona.

Project Arizona is a semester-long program that provides young international leaders a life changing experience that empowers them to become effective advocates for freedom. It ensures that young, outstanding leaders gain a thorough understanding of the ideas of liberty and how to better implement when the return to their home countries.

This program means so much to me because I’m extremely passionate and enthusiastic about the welfare of the people around me.

Growing up on a farm in Lusaka, Zambia, I got acquainted, at a young age, with some of the challenges faced by Zambian entrepreneurs, as they desire economic liberty. These included government intervention on prices of goods, monopoly buying power by big supermarkets, lengthy procedure to register property and start a business etc.

In high school, I joined a club called The Competition and Consumer Protection Club (CCPC).  The main aim of the club was to inculcate competition and consumer protection values among the youths in the country as a long-term measure towards unfair trading and anti competitive business practices. I served as the vice chairman and in my final year, we conducted a campaign rally in the city center against luck of transparency among businesses, government intervention on prices of goods and supported free trade as a factor to increase competition.

In my first year of university I joined the students’ union executive board in association with the Zambian community. Later I was selected to be a member of the African students’ association committee in the university. These student groups help us ensure African students’ welfare within the university.

I recently took a summer course on Politics and Economics of the Free Society co-sponsored by Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences and The Fund for American Studies in Prague, where I came to the realization that political freedom cannot exist without economic freedom; a free mind and a free market are corollaries.

I believe in the brighter future of my beloved country Zambia  and I have a goal of becoming a prominent leader in Zambia. It is no doubt that the United States of America is an icon of prosperity and liberty, therefore an education in Arizona would help me better understand the history of the place and learn the mechanisms of free market economy that makes it prosperous.

I have already managed to collect  61.98% of needed funds ($4,029 out of $6,500), so I am aspiringly launching this campaign to raise the remaining $2 471 by October 25.

Any support matters (donation, shares, or kind words) and will definitely help to advance my mission.

Thank you.
