Sebastian's Journey

Donation protected
We welcomed baby Sebastian into the world on March 12. Hours before we were supposed to be discharged we received heartbreaking news. There was something wrong with our baby's heart. They didn't know what was wrong but they knew he needed more help than they could give him. Sebastian was intubated and rushed to Syracuse by ambulance. We were told IF he survived the trip he might have a chance at life. When we arrived the team of doctors told us Sebastian had been diagnosed with transposition of the great arteries (TGA). In simple terms, his heart was wired backwards. He would need a cath procedure within the next 24 hours to stabilize him so he could be transferred to Rochester. He did well with the procedure and was transferred. In Rochester a world class surgeon performed open heart surgery on Sebastian when he was 8 days old and saved his life. We are so blessed that our baby is such a fighter and is still here with us today! He will require another surgery later in life to repair one of his valves but the whole team is hopeful he will lead a mostly normal life. Several friends and family have asked what they can do to help. We were lucky to have good insurance but we are five months past the surgery and new medical bills continue to arrive. Thank you all so much for your support.
