Chelsea’s Medical Fund

Anybody who knows me knows that my dog Chelsea is my world. I’ve had her since she was a baby, she was even delivered in my apartment. I would do absolutely anything for her and that’s the situation I am in right now.

For the past month I have been in and out of veterinary hospitals, urgent care and seen multiple specialist to try and figure out what is going on with Chelsea. About a month ago (end of May) I noticed that she was starting to have a hard time going up and down the stairs to my apartment. I just figured it was because she didn’t want to go back inside. Then she had a hard time jumping up on the bed and wasn’t being her usual active self. After about a week of this lethargy going on and noticing that she was drinking more water then usual I decided to take her in to see the veterinarian.

After blood and urine lab work the doctor told me that her liver enzymes were elevated and that I should take her immediately to see the internal specialist for an ultrasound, which I did. He said the results did not show any red flags or give any reason to why her levels were elevated. They gave me medication to strengthen her liver and sent us on our way.  Well the medication didn’t help and she started to get worse, it became more and more difficult for her to walk and stand. All she wanted to do was lay on the floor on her side. I started carrying her up and down my stairs so she could go outside.

I took her into the ER one Sunday night because she seemed to be in pain and again they weren’t able to diagnose what was going on with her so they gave me pain medication and sent us home.! I went back the following week to see my regular veterinarian and the specialist again, they did an X-ray of her abdomen and saw that it looked “busy” or “hazy” but wasn’t the cause of her symptoms.
They have run so many tests and labs on her but everything is coming back either negative or doesn’t explain why she is so lethargic and losing the muscle in her legs. Yesterday (June 20th) I took her in to see the internal specialist (and neurologist) again because she had swelling in her hind leg over the weekend. When I dropped her off they rolled out a gurney and took her back to be examined, I just about fell to the ground crying hysterically. They had to sedate her for a joint tap test and are sending out blood work to check for parasites.

This has been one of the hardest times in my life. Not knowing what is causing her to be so lethargic and watching her only be able to stand for a few minutes and then collapse breaks my heart. I wish that she could just talk to me and tell me what she is feeling. I have exhausted all options to pay for her treatment, using credit cards, taking money from my savings account, and borrowing money from my sister. They still have not figured out what is the cause for all of her symptoms  but I am determined to help save my baby girls life because she saved mine. She is a fighter and she is staying strong, she’s still eating and drinking water which gives me hope that she can keep fighting.

Please consider donating any amount to Chelsea’s medical fund so I can continue treatment for her in hopes of determining what is causing her to be so ill. I appreciate all of the love and support I have received so far from my family and friends. I wouldn’t be able to hold it together if it weren’t for all of you. Thank you for taking the time to read my story about my girl, Chelsea. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
