Liam's Story
I first met Liam at the age of eleven just as we were beginning our secondary school days. Over the past twenty-six years, we have remained in contact through group chats and often meeting up for drinks and meals where life allowed. Sadly, Saturday 2nd March was our final meet-up.
Just over a year ago Liam was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. He had an operation to remove the tumour and everything went well. He carried on with his day to day, having to go back and forth for some rehabilitation tests and treatment. Within six months the cancer had returned, this time more aggressively. Liam underwent some more treatment to try and slow the cancer down. Sadly, the cancer spread to his stomach. With having been on different medication and treatments, Liam recently had to attend hospital for a procedure. Things took a turn for the worse and the cancer rapidly progressed. On Sunday 3rd March 2024, Liam lost his battle.
During our last meeting with Liam, he asked us if we would do the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for him and to raise money for Cancer Research. It was always something we had planned to do anyway, but Cancer got in the way.
So, in memory, and to honour our old mates' wishes, myself, Ryan and Benoit are going to undertake the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 25th May 2024.
For those not in the know, The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a 24-miles (38.6km) round trip route and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent, taking on the three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent.
We would be extremely grateful to anyone wishing to sponsor or donate to our challenge, however small and as I said earlier, Liam had already expressed wishes for the proceeds to be donated to cancer research.
Thank you
