WHO AM I?
In 2012, I made a New Year's Resolution to do something to help the world, not just think about it. I started looking into non-profits that helped women. What I found was Days for Girls International, and I've been... well... a little obsessed... since then. I became the director of DFG Georgia. I've helped collect supplies, sew, and assemble over 700 kits to be distributed to girls around the world. Please visit www.daysforgirls.org

I have officially signed on for TWO trips to spread the Days for Girls love and give girls back EVERY day of her education.
I have set my goal at $5,500 to cover the following:
Airfare: $2,375 ($675 to Guatemala City and $1,700 to Kampala, Uganda)
Trip Fees: $2,600 ($800 to Southeastern Synod of ELCA and $1800 to African Promise Foundation. These fees cover all ground transportation, food, and lodging.)
Other: $250- Required immunizations, visas, and misc items needed, such as preventive medications, mosquito net and rain boots!

Trip 1: GUATEMALA-

THIS TRIP HAS CONCLUDED! SEE PHOTOS AND STORIES ON DAYS FOR GIRLS GEORGIA'S FACEBOOK PAGE!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Trip 2: UGANDA- August 12-19 (plane ticket has already been purchased, all other fees totaling $1800 due to organizer by August 1st)- I will be traveling with Days for Girls and African Promise Foundation for seven days to distribute kits and help teach girls about hygiene and the importance of education and being THEMSELVES- Proud women and valuable citizens of their communities.

We will be staying with this incredible woman!-

WHY GIRLS? WHY MENSTRUAL PADS?
When a girl receives a kit of reusable, washable cloth menstrual pads, she has a solution. She has a form of independence. She does not have to rely on "the system" to supply her feminine needs (which, frankly, can lead to VERY disturbing "requirements" for supplies). Her confidence grows exponentially. For every year of education a girl receives, her earning potential expands. When a girl has 7 or more years of education, she marries 4 years later and has 2.2 fewer children. Child brides have TWICE the pregnancy related death rate of women in their 20s. In sub-Saharan Africa, less than one in five girls make it to secondary school.
