GIST Cancer Research

Tax deductible
This fund is to support GIST Cancer Research Fund and
the "A Day For Jay " auction on July 20th, 2018 in memory of Jay Laegreid.

As many of you know, my mom was a hardworking, fun-loving woman who devoted her life to saving and improving the lives of others.  In 2002 she was diagnosed with GIST Cancer and though it slowed her down, it did not stop her.  It was a rough battle for her to fight.  But it was a battle that I like to say she ultimately won by learning to celebrate life to the fullest and accomplishing all her goals before this disease took her from us on July 19th, 2008.  During her battle with GIST she had two missions: in addition to saving the lives of the babies she worked with every day, she was also determined to obliterate GIST.

GIST (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor) Cancer affects around 5,000 people in the US each year. These tumors will begin anywhere in the GI tract, but most commonly the stomach. Treatments involved are aggressive, expensive and not always reliable. Research has improved quite a bit in the last ten years but there's still a long way to go. With this being a rare cancer, not many know about it and it's victims and researchers don't always get the love that they need and deserve. All of the money raised for patients is privately given because GIST is so rare that the American Cancer Society doesn't even recognize it for funding. Let's change this and work together to support finding a cure.
