Dawn Horner Medical Fund

Our sister, Dawn Horner was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer on August 12, 2014, after receiving two misdiagnoses 15 months prior. The CT scan and PET scan confirmed that she had cancer in her lung, ribs, spine and hips. It was a shock to everyone that our sister at the age of 51 was diagnosed with this horrible news. She was in great shape, had never smoked, and was living a healthy lifestyle.

After having three years of success with chemotherapy, we learned that Dawn’s cancer was growing again. Her oncologist offered two options, both would require traveling out of state, which took her to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.

We were so thankful that Dawn qualified for this trial; the drug Poziotinib has shown a 73% positive response rate in the first group of patients. Our hope is that she will be able to remain in this trial until the drug becomes FDA approved or until something else is found to help delay the progression of her disease. Dawn started treatment in October 2017 at MD Anderson in Houston, and will be traveling monthly. We are helping to raise funds for airfare and hotels in order to ease the financial pressures that her family will bear.

We love our sister and pray this treatment will allow her many years with her family. Your support is greatly appreciated.
