Kendra, Chris and Kyle (7) lost their house, storage shed with all its contents, furniture building workshop and garage in the devastating Colorado floods. Insurance is proving to be woefully inadequate, not covering the shop, storage shed or anything that was lost inside their home. Additionally, they are being told it will most likely be a year, if not longer, before their 3 bedroom home can be rebuilt, and insurance will not cover their rental costs. So, as they continue to pay a mortgage on a house that was destroyed by the floods, they must also pay rent.
With insurance covering so little, and so much to be done, they are at a time when they need extra support to make it through this emotionally and financially destructive time. While we can never replace the family items, memories, photos and personal items, we can provide financial aid as they save to rebuild. GoFundMe asked me to include a bit about my relationship to Kendra, Chris and Kyle so everyone knows this is all on the 'up and up' and how funds will be distributed. Kendra and I call each other 'cousin', but technically we are not cousins. Our father's grew up across the street from each other and have been best friends since they were able to walk (about 70 years now :-). My father lost his brother in an accident when they were very young, and Kendra's father was the only brother he really ever knew. So, we spent all our holidays together and were pretty much raised as cousins.
My family recently relocated to Denver, Colorado - about 30 miles away from Kendra, Chris and Kyle. We now get the joy of spending our holiday's together and seeing our kids grow up together. That makes our family's friendship span three generations!
I'm so hoping that this Thanksgiving we can not only provide the Turkey and stuffing, but a check from friends and family willing to help get Kendra and her family back on track.
