David's Marathon for Greyhounds

Hitting what's politely referred to as a 'roundy' number in November, I decided earlier this year to set myself a challenge: to run my first marathon before it, and in doing so try to raise a few quid for something I'm passionate about: Greyhounds.

So I'm running the Belfast City Marathon on October 3rd.

 

If you're reading this you've almost certainly seen me Tweet or Insta about Blue and Luna.

 

Blue and Luna are rescued, and believe me they are now living their best, rescued doggo lives. But they are just two dogs who are the product of a cruel industry that produces over 16,000 dogs a year in Ireland, an uncountable number of which don't get the same second chances that Blue and Luna have.

 

But there are many who are trying to change that, which is why I'm hoping you might support my fundraising initiative.

 

Every cent raised will go to Homes for Unwanted Greyhounds (HUG), a registered charity run by dedicated volunteers wholly committed to finding homes for retired greyhounds, and promoting a positive image of greyhounds as pets.

 

I have never met a group of people more dedicated and devoted than the people who work with HUG - and as you know I'm passionate about these greyhounds and the work HUG does. Blue and Luna have been wonderful additions to my home, and I'm hoping you'll support me in giving thanks to the work HUG does and needs to keep doing.

 

And greyhounds make the most amazing pets! Anything you've heard about them needing constant exercise and huge amounts of space is a big misconception. They might not be tiny dogs, but they don't take a huge amount of space, or a huge amount of your time.

 

Apropos this fundraiser, if you are even thinking for a moment about adding a dog to your home, please consider a greyhound. They are the most placid, gentle and friendly dogs who will steal your heart, and also your couch.
