David Pryor Liver Transplant Fund

Donation protected
[UPDATE! Dave's medical coverage has been restored! Please read latest update post! We will be lowering the fundraising goal once we have a determination of what will be covered under the existing coverage and under the Affordable Care Act commencing January 1st.]

The DAVID PRYOR LIVER TRANSPLANT FUND has been organized by the family of David Pryor, age 51, who recently received a preliminary diagnosis of liver cancer. Without a liver transplant and chemotherapy, he has been given 6-12 months to live subject to a confirming second MRI scheduled for August.

His doctors have said that a transplant is 100% curative of liver cancer and their transplant success rate is 95%. Without it he almost certainly will die based on the preliminary diagnosis. Unfortunately, his insurance coverage was recently terminated.

It is ironic that, as Dave's wife, I'm the one launched a recall effort against our governor in 2011 to bring national attention to her policy to cut life-saving organ transplant funding for Medicaid recipients. Along with pressure from other organizations we worked along side of, the governor got the message and restored the funding (but unfortunately not before two who were bumped off the transplant list died).

Now I am advocating for my own husband who needs a liver transplant and the funds I fought for are not available to us due to narrow state requirements.

We are aggressively searching for options but need to be prepared to fund the transplant and treatment with the support of friends, family and strangers who may learn of our story. We do not have a lot of time to raise a vast amount of money. The cost of a liver transplant, pre-op through post-op, is estimated at $570,000.

In a best case diagnosis, we still need to be prepared to cover the cost of expensive tests, ongoing monitoring and needed medical treatment for underlying disease.

As I am Dave's caregiver, this also means cutting back on the hours I am able to put into my business for the foreseeable future. This may in fact mean several weeks off work altogether as he is recovering from the transplant surgery. This translates to less money coming into our household along with the need to hire contractors to help with yard work, tree trimming, repairs and other things that Dave can no longer do. The funds you donate will help in all of these areas in addition to any out-of-pocket costs related to his transplant, cancer treatment and care.

Please help take this viral by sharing this page with your Facebook, Twitter & MySpace networks and any other social networks you belong to. It is going to take hundreds or possibly thousands of donors to meet this goal if it turns out that we need to fund a transplant ourselves. If you would like to do a fundraiser or collect donations in your area, please do!

Although donations to individuals are not tax-deductible, you will be helping to save a life!

Our faith is in our heavenly Father who can do beyond everything we can hope, ask or think. Your prayer support means more than anything else and I thank you for it from the bottom of my heart!
