Davids Fight

Back in mid-April Dave was beginning to suffer from breathing pains and headaches. He was told he may suffer from COPD and migraines, and to come back for testing. On May 6th Dave was taken to Southlake Emergency for a debilitating migraine, and his battle begun. We learnt that Dave was suffering from Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer that had metastasised to his brain and had multiple lesions that were causing the migraines. He was released on May 12th. Dave underwent 5 treatments of radiation on his brain from May 19 to May 26. He then developed a blood clot in his upper calf followed by one in his lung, and is receiving injection blood thinners twice daily. He completed his first chemotherapy treatment on Jun 30 but was admitted back to hospital on Jul 4th and diagnosed with severe pneumonia, so chemo has been stopped. He was released on July 12th. On Aug 4th he completed his first treatment of immunotherapy and on Aug 8th was taken back to the  hospital for migraines and a skin irritation caused by the treatment. Until further notice, immunotherapy is on hold. He needs the swelling in his brain to reside and the skin irritation and pneumonia to clear up completely before we can move forward with treatment for the cancer. The staff at Southlake are again taking fantastic care of him until we can get a handle on everything and bring him home.
