I am asking for your support for my husband and wonderful father to our two beautiful children— David Akins. David will be undergoing surgery tomorrow to extract part of a lemon-sized likely cancerous tumor in his brain and most likely begin a healthy dose of long-term rehabilitation starting immediately.
As his other half, I’ve seen David grow throughout the years as the anchor and provider for our family. David is an approachable, fun-loving, and selfless person, but also with a driven determined work ethic and competitiveness undoubtedly concreted throughout the 6 years he spent serving our country in the Army. Being the strong one for so many years, David’s impending bout with this life-altering tumor has forced our family to call on the positive mental attitude that he developed while serving our country and instilled in us, and of course the will to beat something like this more than ever.
Our children have not had a normal father: David has NEVER missed the opportunity to attend a game, a practice, a talent show, or weekly family fun night at our house. The picture we used is fron his monthly daddy-daughter nights where he brings our ten year old daughter on a date and shows her how a lady is to be treated. Admittedly the “cheesy dad guy” who prefers quality time with his children over free time for his own endeavors, we have never had to worry about having what we needed from David. Similarly, in his professional pursuits, David has fulfilled an actively happy and positive attitude that always leaves his customers feeling taken care of while never quitting until the job is done and done right.
Some of you may know how much David loves to coach and inspire children and envelop others in our community with encouragement: I am asking that you do the same thing for us during this truly scary time. Any supportive thoughts and prayers and positive notes will go a long way to strengthening our resolve. Our family is up to this challenge and will attack it with the intensity of a sprinter and the endurance of a marathoner. If you feel that you could serve us with a financial gift as well, I can assure you that even the smallest amount will ease David’s stress and inevitable fear of the unknowns regarding surgeries and rehab, not to mention all of our faith in the goodness of people and God.
Every day I listen to David’s rock (and rockstar in the making), when our daughter says, “He’s not going anywhere Mom!” I am confident with a outpouring of love and support that she is right and David will reclaim his permanent indention on the couch. I appreciate your consideration and all of your help through this time. We have already seen how amazingly effective it can be when people around us have good energy and a desire to trust that God will handle everything.
