David Williamson Smith of Scarsdale, NY died peacefully surrounded by family on Dec. 1 following a battle with cancer. He was 71.

David was a beloved by his family and friends and will be remembered as a caring, funny,  always thoughtful man who was a loving and passionate husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor and friend.

His father was a high school English teacher in Mount Vernon and his mother was an administrative assistant for the Scarsdale Board of Education. Because of his mother's job David had the opportunity to attend Scarsdale High School, where he was Class President and graduated in 1963.  Having received a scholarship from the Scarsdale PTA, David attended  Amherst College in Massachusetts.   David earned his law degree from New York University Law School.

In honor of David we are setting up the David W. Smith Scholarship fund at Scarsdale High School.  The David W. Smith Scholarship will benefit a student whose mother or father is an employee of the school district in any capacity by providing tutition assistance while they attend college.
