David the Daredevil Wingwalking Pensioner!

The incredible Aerosuperbatics Wing Walker’s display team at the recent Weston super Mare Airdays have been an inspiration for One of the Charity’s  more senior supporters,

David from North Somerset, felt the need for an adenaline-filled experience and also wants to support the North Somerset LGBT Forum so has booked himself a Wing Walk experience for later this summer!…. If he survives the first flight, it will be followed straight after by a loop-the-loop experience- that will be subject to health checks and whether his incontinence pants have remained dry ……at aged 81; such things have to be considered!!

An introduction to our supporter David in his own words:

"My name is David Elsey. I am 81yrs. young and a gay grandad who happens to be a ‘born again virgin’ (haemorrhoids op.) I have a self-appointed minder, read - a long-term suffering partner who insists on being introduced as my toy-boy (at 74yrs. of age?!?) We now practice LAT - Living Apart Together, lovely, lots of private space and time to pursue our individual interests whilst still being in a loving relationship.

 

I grew up in the ‘40s - early ‘60s in the Thames Valley industrial belt. There was no information on alternate lifestyles; as we now know, macho behaviour was considered the norm.

 

A failed marriage led to a gay lifestyle in the ‘70s; oh boy, did I make up for a lost time. While my parents were supportive of me being ‘out’ many of my other friends were not.

 

I left my second career due to my line managers being homophobic. I became very wary of having to triple-check every professional action I undertook.

 

It was during this time I became a member of Campaign for Homosexual Equality, partaking in public demonstrations, e.g. marching on Parliament and City Hall with Trade Unionists etc. giving me a sense of belonging.

 

So why am I doing this sponsored wing-walk at my age? In a nutshell, I am a mini adrenalin junkie, and someone may well benefit by this act of mine, that is, before my kids put me in a home for the elderly mentally deranged or whatever you do with people like me.

 

Funds are needed to ensure the NSLGBT+ Forum continues to offer informative support to a wide range of people wishing to feel comfortable within their own skins in order to live their chosen life styles."
