<div>Hi, my name is David, I'm a film critic, and every year I cut together my 25 favorite films of the past 12 months into an overly long video countdown for some reason. Maybe you've seen one.  You can actually <a href="https://www.videocountdowns.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">watch them all on this website</a> if you want.<br /><br />Here's the new one!<br /><br /><iframe media_type="0" media_id="ZFaUW008vas" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZFaUW008vas/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe>
</div>

<div>I enjoy making them, and some people seem to enjoy watching them, which is really nice. But they take a lot of time — like a LOT of time — and last year I reached the point where I could only really justify making them if I did so for a good cause. I connected with Garrett Bradley (director of TIME, my #1 film of 2020) to pick a worthy non-profit near and dear to her heart, and I promised people that I would make another one of these silly things if we raised $10,000 for the Rich Family Ministries. Thanks to hundreds of generous donors, <a href="../../../f/help-support-families-of-new-orleans-prisoners" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">we were able to raise more than 13700</a>. Weird that you can't put a dollar sign or a comma in a hyperlink on this website but whatever, please just know that I tried. I tried.
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div>Anyway I'm doing all that again. This year I've partnered with THE POWER OF THE DOG director Jane Campion, who's selected three extraordinary non-profits which — like so many women in Texas clinging to what's left of their reproductive rights — are in urgent need of support. Those three non-profits are:
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div><a href="https://avowtexas.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>AVOW</strong></a> <strong>: </strong>Avow is a c4 non-profit that works to secure unrestricted abortion access for every Texan. Avow Foundation for Abortion Access is a c3 non-profit that works to educate Texans on the importance of abortion access. Avow PAC is a political action committee that works to elect champions for abortion access.
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div><a href="https://www.lilithfund.org/portfolio/about/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>LILITH FUND</strong></a><strong>:</strong> We provide financial assistance and emotional support while building community spaces for people who need abortions in Texas—unapologetically, with compassion and conviction. Through organizing and movement-building, we foster a positive culture around abortion, strengthen people power, and fight for reproductive justice in and with our communities.
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div><a href="https://www.westfund.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>WEST FUND</strong></a> <strong>: </strong>Getting an abortion in Texas is even harder thanks to the new laws that have restricted access. But clinics in and around El Paso are STILL open and we're funding--but it's hard because abortions are so expensive.
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div><strong>If we raise $20,000, I'll make another one of these videos for 2022 (likely published in early 2023). What an incentive!</strong>
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div><strong>If we fall short of that goal, every penny donated will still be evenly divided between those three non-profits (minus whatever percentage GoFundMe takes from each donation). </strong>
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div>These are extremely difficult times all around, and I understand that soliciting donations — even to a valuable cause — is a lot to ask right now. But for those who can afford to give, this is also an extremely urgent time to help those in need, and these silly videos are the best leverage I have to marshal that kind of help. So here goes nothing! Again.
</div>

<div>
</div>

<div>Thank you!
