David del Castillo (Dave Knight) Family Fundraiser

Donation protected
Our Victoria community is heartbroken today, as many of you are discovering the tragic loss of our dear friend and brother David del Castillo.  He was a larger than life Husband, Father and Friend. David impacted a huge number of people from every corner of this community.

David suffered a major heart attack in the early hours of Monday morning.

He leaves behind his wife Tara married 20 years, a family unit of 26years... and his four children Elias, Mia, Diego and Benicio.
This loss is sudden and heartbreaking.
It also leaves a tight knit family at a loss for how to move forward.

This leaves Tara as the sole provider for the family, she is self employed and runs an in home daycare.
However under these current conditions she is not able to open her daycare or provide for her family.

We are reaching out to the community to help us support this family until they are able to stand on their feet again.

The bills still need to be paid and we need to try and nurture this family as they move forward into this unknown.

Any donation will assist them, large or small, the family has no life insurance or savings.

David (Dave Knight) del Castillo was a huge personality amongst his friends.

Here is one sentiment that a friend posted today and we think he summed things up very well…

We’re all starting to say our goodbyes to Dave Del Castillo tonight, some very up close and personal, and some from very far away. I imagine that soon we’ll all be in a room somewhere very soon to do it properly, and the guy who usually takes up most of the room won’t be there with us. We’ll be there for him.

I wouldn’t be the person I am today were it not for those years when we were close. Fearlessness, humour, attitude and a dash of occasional humility, a broader sense of family. And in these later years we riffed on family more than anything else. Our kids and our partners and our struggles and our hopes and fears. My sense of the world along with so many others was impacted by his presence. He was a natural big brother to so many of us, and a gifted leader, somehow able to make it seem as though we’d all decide to do stupid things together. Life always seemed one part Outsiders, one part Don Quixote, and one part gut-busting comedy improv. What a great bar to mark your life against.
Tonight I am heartbroken to know that his spark becomes a memory, but I am beyond grateful for the ease of our conversations. I’m beyond grateful for all the music. The debauchery. The joy. And I’m grateful that he not only shared that spark with all of us, but that he helped us power our own sparks too. It’s that spark that defines him. Nothing less. Thanks, man.
