David Brooks the Piper of the Heath Memorial

Donation protected
This funding is for a memorial to David Brooks also known as the Piper of Hampstead Heath.

I am Eponae Woods-Brooks David's daughter.   We his family are trying to raise enough money to purchase a plot for him to be laid to rest and have a place where he can always be remembered.  If this is not possible, we would like to have some sort of memorial for him, such as a bench on the Heath and plaque on the bandstand any suggestions on a suitable memorial would be much appreciated.

Highgate Cemetery would be a fitting resting place for man who has accomplished so much in his life and a place to go for those who loved him.  A seasoned traveller, he had been round the world twice in his younger days whilst in the navy, a musician, an artist, a performer and environmentalist long before it was fashionable. He brought pleasure and laughter to so many people.

People walking on the heath and living close by enjoyed the unique experience of hearing the bagpipes of a morning.  People would stop and chat and new friends were made.  He touched the lives of so many people making their special occasions memorable from weddings to funerals he would make sure that he created long lasting memories for people.  David loved the Heath and the Men’s pond in particular, it was his club.  He would go every day have a quick swim then sit down with the rest of the life boys to debate current affairs and put the world to rights.

His circle of friends covers the globe and their tributes and comments on Facebook evidence the impact that he had on the people who knew him.  Everyone who knew him has contributed their pictures and anecdotes.  It is clear that he was a very special man and his passing has created a void in the lives of the people who knew him. He was truly irreplaceable. He was concerned about people, the environment and the world.  He lived his life frugally, gardened organically and did what ever he could for the environment.

Dave was outspoken and honest with his thoughts.  He truly was a lovely man and all that know him will miss him.  We hope to raise the money to have him buried in Highgate Cemetery.  A final resting place or memorial where those who knew and loved him can have a place to visit him and share their thoughts.

David you will be dearly missed.

I will be sharing pictures, videos and anecdotes with you which documents David's life.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,  all the support and condolences. It is very much appreciated.
