Loyal, dependable, and strong are three words that come to mind when describing Dave Shrewsbury. For those who know him well, would say he's completely hardheaded but one of the most hardworking souls you’d ever meet. For those of you, who haven’t yet had a pleasure of knowing him, allow me to give a brief introduction.
Dave Shrewsbury, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a best friend, a motorcycle enthusiast, a hunter, and a good ol’ boy. Dave is always there to lend a helping hand, knowing better than anyone the meaning of live, laugh, love; he tells it like it is. So even if you don’t ride, don’t hunt, or live life a bit different; read this story as a mother, a father, a daughter, or a son; because sometimes you’ll never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Heart Disease claims the lives of 610,000 Americans per year; it is no surprise that heart disease is the #1 leading cause of death. Dave suffered 3 strokes and in 2010 he had his first open heart surgery at the age of 47 after a valve replacement and no major hiccups life went on pretty normally.
The next seven years flew by living life for tomorrow; when tragedy struck.
August 9, 2017, Dave had his 4th stroke, after three days of hospitalization the doctors delivered some bad news. He had lost all peripheral vision. Picture this: You look through a peephole and see straight ahead when you look up, down, side-to-side you see nothing but darkness. Dave will live with tunnel vision for the rest of his life and had to say goodbye to the days cruising on his Harley.
Dave was placed on blood thinners to reduce the risk of a stroke. August 24th he was rushed to the hospital due to an IVH/ICH; Intraventricular /intracerebral hemorrhage… commonly referred as bleeding the brain. Dave spent 10 days in the Neuro ICU, he suffered short-term memory loss, ability to see, and total numbness. Doctors said it was a miracle he survived 9 out of 10 patients who experience an IVH live on in memories.
Dave was released from the hospital but is unable to return to his normal life.
Catch 22
Dave needs blood thinners to stop the strokes but is unable to take them due to brain hemorrhaging.
Doctors have one solution to surgically implant the WATCHMAN device.
This surgery will cost the family $98,789 plus hospital fees. Without this surgery, Dave could lose his life.
Unable to work and being the sole provider for the family, this surgery isn’t feasible.
No Income, steady bills, disability and social security off the table.
